It is an ancient idea that people who do not enjoy literature do not eat grass because of the luck of cows. That is to say that lives without literature can be considered horizontal souls. However, in the Dompe Regional Council area of Gangabada Pattu, they become lucky people because they are fortunate enough to have a literary association that is never poor.

This will become a fertile land that has given birth to writers who have contributed greatly to the development of a great society in the world with great pride. Out of that, some of the most popular and famous writers on the island are mentioned by name as a water drop taken from the ocean, as these few pages are not enough to present information about all of them, because we have enough facts to publish a special book on that fact only.

  • Hon. Alagiyanna Mukaveti Padithuma- Subhashithaya, Kusa Jathakaya Kawya, Dahamsonda Kawa, Neethisaraya, Parangi hatana, Mahahatana
  • Sir Mahagamasekara- Prabuddha, Nomiyemi, Thunman Handiya, Mano Mandira
  • Sir Rupe Wijesinghe- Pem Wiyaryuwa, Laba Upan Hati, Weerabhoomi, Molegedara
  • Sir K Jayathilake- Charitha Thunak, Kaale Ayanthe, Thatu Saha Mal, Parajithayo

Even if we take each of these writers separately, we can present long details about the nurturing of Sri Lankan literature and the contributions of independent works, translated poetry, plays, etc. Above, only a few names of the relevant literary figures are embedded in the public’s minds.

Also, the list of authors such as Kaphakondaya Pannasekara Thero, Mr. KG Premaratne, Mr. Kusumsiri Jayawardene, Mr. Premacandra Magammana, Mr. Jayakodi Senaviratne, etc. can be continuously presented.

Moreover, it is a matter of happiness to see that nowadays the young generation of the Apasabha area is also focusing on the library.

As Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha, representing all these literates, we are privileged to preside over the “Rna Siyane Prasadini” awards every year.
In the same way, the group of writers who won the award also showed a humble attitude.
