History
According to the terms of the Local Council Act No. 15 of 1987, Dompe Local Council has been established in terms of the Special Gazette of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka No. 453/6 dated 12-05-1987. The spread of political and administrative powers from that time to today can be described as follows.
Introduction to tenure, political authority, administrative powers.
No election was held from 1987-05-12 to 1991. The authority has been delegated to a special commissioner authorized by the Divisional Secretary. Mr. Wijedasa, who was a director of education at that time, has acted as the administrative officer.
From 1991 to 1997 (first session) Mr. Sarath Keerthiratne was appointed as the chairman and after he was elected to the Provincial Council in 1992, Mr. Sunny Jayawardena served as the chairman.
1992-1993 Mr. C. Weeramantri was the secretary and 1993-1997 Mrs. Amara Alahakon worked as the secretary of the council.
From 1997 to 2002 (second session) Mr. Sunny Jayawardene from the United People’s Freedom Alliance Party has been appointed as the President.
From 1997-2001 Mr. J.M.W. Jayasinghe has worked as secretary.
(2001-2002) Acting secretaries have worked.
From 2002 to 2006 (second session) Mr. Ubhaya Kumara Jayawardena from United National Party has been appointed as the Chairman.
From 2002 to 2004 Mrs. J.M. Pushpalatha and from 2004-2006 Mr. DP Somesiri also worked as secretaries.
2006-2011 (4th Session) – Mr. Sunny Jayawardene from the United People’s Freedom Alliance Party has been nominated as the President.
In 2006, Ms. Letricia Kannangara was the secretary and for the period of 2007 – 2008, she served as the acting secretary.
2011-2015 (5th Session) – Mr. Milan Jayathilaka from the United People’s Freedom Alliance Party has been nominated as the President.
From 2011-2015 M.U.R. Mrs. Maddumage has been appointed as the secretary.
No session was held in 2015-2018. Mrs. M.U.R.Maddumage has worked as an officer of the council’s powers and tasks.
2018-2022 Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Mr. Milan Jayathilaka was the President and after he was elected to the Parliament in 2020, he served as the President of Piyasena Kariyapperuma.
2018-2019 Mrs. Upuli Maddumage and from 2019 till now Mr. D.A. Ajith Ranasinghe is also working.
